Welcome to the Studio!

Hi! If you want to improve your singing ability, then you're in the right place. I can help you reach your singing potential no matter where you're starting; I work with raw beginners to established professionals because I've been there and everywhere between. I'm looking forward to meeting you!

I can help you to…

Become a better singer

Our lessons will consist of two parts. First we concentrate on proper technique to teach you to breathe efficiently, increase your vocal range and flexibility, and make beautiful sound. Second, we practice songs that reinforce the technique, that you enjoy, and that expand your knowledge of music. I also remind you to make a recording of every lesson so you can practice on your own.

Prepare for a performance / audition

When you have an important event in your future I will work with you to ensure you do your best. I’ll review music with you, give you coaching and performance tips for your specific role/piece, help you manage nerves and anxiety, and give you the guidance you need to ensure you peak at performance time. I’ll share with you the wisdom I’ve gained from more than 20 years on stages from Seattle to Italy.

Expand your horizons

I will also find opportunities to help you reach the next level of your growth as a singer—applying my knowledge of music to find creative ways to convert your weaknesses into strengths. Through this process, you’ll end up receiving more than just a voice lesson; you’ll come away with more self-confidence and a stronger understanding of your capabilities. As a teacher, I care about your growth both as a singer and as a person.

What Students and Parents say

You have no idea of the appreciation my husband and I have for Rachel and her impact on our daughters’ vocal training. As a parent, you know the difference between ordinary teachers and great ones who inspire and truly care. Rachel has elevated our daughter’s desire to improve her vocal technique and abilities. It has been exciting to witness and hear her development and rich tone, all due to Rachel’s teaching abilities. Each week our daughter looks forward to her lessons as they are tailored to her individual needs. After each lesson, our daughter is happy and excited looking forward to her next lesson. Rachel has connected with our daughter in a way that no other voice teacher has in the past. Her sense of humor is contagious. She has shown a genuine interest in our daughter by helping her work hard and seeing the fruits of her efforts. Your time, effort and money will be well spent with Rachel! She is awesome!

It’s been exciting to witness

I have been taking voice lessons from Rachel Olson for quite some time. Even though she was not my first voice teacher, I have always felt that she was the first to teach me “the true language” of singing. She has a way of teaching both visually and mentally, something that I believe to be difficult since it isn’t something I have found in other teachers. Rachel also has a passion for this art and it is evident in her every lesson with me. She guenuinely cares for all her students. Not just on a personal note, but also how her teaching style is affecting them in their growth as a performer. All in all, I firmly believe that Rachel is the best teacher out there. She has a wonderful gift and I would encourage any one to quickly take advantage of her great talent!

A bit more about me

Hi! I'm a classically trained opera singer and have been singing professionally since 1999. I've performed lead roles in operas, operettas, and musicals from coast to coast in the US, and internationally. I earned a Bachelors in Opera from the Boston Conservatory of Music (where I was also valedictorian of my class) and a Masters in Vocal Performance from Indiana University, Bloomington. I've also trained at music festivals from Aspen, Colorado to Oderzo, Italy. My love of music started early in my childhood. I grew up singing in a musical family that performed a lot of musical theatre. After being exposed to Opera by a high school voice teacher, I fell in love with the luscious music and challenge of foreign languages it offered. I regularly sing with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and have also performed as a soloist with orchestra. One of my passions is sharing knowledge, teaching voice and helping people discover new potentials and new possibilities. One of the most thrilling things is to see someone's voice, technique, stage presence, language abilities and self-confidence grow. When I have been a part of that process; it is amazingly fulfilling. My studio is comprised of students of all ages, from professionals to those that just enjoy singing. I can help you get ready for an upcoming competition/audition, help guide you to know if this might be a career for you, or help you to be a better singer in your church choir, etc. I hope you'll give me a chance to see where singing can take you!
